STAFF'S SIZZLING SONGS (5/24/2022)

Updated: May 24, 2022

This is the first installation of what will be a weekly blog post to help show off our favorite songs that we can't turn off this week! Each of our writers will give a quick write-up of the track they think you absolutely have to hear.

I was lucky enough that one of my friends put me on to BIGBABYGUCCI years ago, so I've been able to listen as he went from one underground hit to another. This is nothing new for the North Carolina artist, as he has been a fixture in the scene for quite some time. If you haven't been listening, it's imperative to the health of your ears that you put on the Airpods and listen to his latest offering immediately. The track starts off with a line that instantly gets stuck in your head when GUCCI screams "I just put some diamonds in my eaaaaaaaaarrrr" in the cadence and flow that he has perfected on past projects. With intense production and in your face vocals, this is a song that you wish went a bit past the 1-minute and 58-second run time. Lucky for us, there's always the repeat feature!

21 Different beats, 21 Different locations, 1.2 Million views in 1 day, all while reaching #2 trending in searches on YouTube. These are a few things that helped solidify “Emperor of the Universe” by buzzing Michigan artist BabyTron as an INSTANT CLASSIC. Tron, an artist hailing from Ypsilanti, has been on repeat daily for me since he first caught my eye in early 2020, as a new wave of Michigan based artists began to gain traction across the entire country. Luckily, he continues to bless our speakers with another hit song, this time paired beautifully with a funny, yet entertaining, video shot and edited by Chicago's finest, Cole Bennett. BabyTron has been a standout artist for me, impressing with versatile flows, incredible lyricism, unique delivery, and unmatched beat selection. For this go around, the 21-year-old punch god effortlessly bodies 21 different popular instrumentals, including: "Sorry Bout That" by Yeat, the amazing "Ms. Jackson" by Outkast and "Forever" by Drake just to name a few. The variety of flows, punchlines, & the legendary collaboration with Lyrical Lemonade are sure to help this track forever be a staple in Michigan and HipHop history. "Sorry Ms. Jackson, nah I ain't sorry, I'll scam yo a** again".
